Advertisments
Waking up for school the first thing i did was turn on the TV, immediately there was an ad for Gillette razor for men, since the point was to observe the ads and analyze I decided to look at the show to see if the demographic would be targeted to men and the program was a segment on ESPN which men is there primary target demographic. I imitatively notice that when, you are actually paying attention to the advertisements you see, and there is an abundance of different kinds. On my way to school i notice an ad in the window of Turkey Hill for Newport 100's. There are also advertisements for their gas and other products in the store. On my walk to class, there is a bulletin board where students post different advertisements and notifications for upcoming events. I saw that there was an advertisement for a woman who would be performing at the sub in April.
While in my magazine writing class we watched a you tube video on a topic we had been discussing but in the begging there was an as for Nissan, i noticed that on the bottom it counts down the seconds until you can skip the ad so that the audience sees at least a little of what is being promoted. Next while in Dr. Bocks class she played a music video in the beginning of class on the side of the website and on the button there were various different advertisements. Walking home from school i record the different advertisements i see in the store fronts, like specials for pizza at Mama's or deal on glasses at the sun glass store. When i get home from school i relax for a minute and make something to eat, while im in the kitchen i hear my brother listening to TV and there is an advertisement for the P90X, this made me notice that this product is directly marketed to my brother, a male in his late 20's who enjoys working out and watches sports all the time.
After this i went on my laptop to do some homework. Before i started i decided to look up news stories about the Trayvon Martin case. When i got to the page that talked about it there were many different advertisements on the right hand side of the page, on was for the "world’s best stain remover ever." Next i went onto my Facebook account; Facebook is constantly generating a bunch of different ads. Weather its promoting a product or a page that they want you to like. The one that stood out to me the most was an ad for condoms. I was happy that i saw an ad promoting safe sex.
Finally for the rest of the night i watched Television, when i was watching the Bravo network the ads tended to be targeted to people who regularly watch Bravo because it was promoting other shows. Then i watched a show called the Walking Dead on Demand. I like On Demand because you can fast forward and rewind and there are far less commercials but still commercials at that. During the walking dead there was commercials for Chevy Trucks, March Madness, and Dove Body wash.
In this day and age the number of ads that one encounters on a daily base is astonishing. Ads are everywhere and there are no escaping advertisements. Wether it be from the internet, newspaper, magazine, on store windows, billboards. Ads surround us wherever we go. When you actually take the time to observe the abundance of ads you see on a daily bases you realize how many ads there really are, and how allot of them are targeted at a certain demographic. For me since i tend to watch both shows that are to be considered either girly or manly, i felt as though i was able to observe many different ads ranging for a Gillette razor to a pink dress. Advertisement agencies make their money by advertising their products on popular websites and magazines like Google and Vogue. They want to get their product seen and entice people into buying what they are selling. There is a difference in ads when you are watching the news compared to when you are watching a reality television show. I think the running of advertisements have a lot to do with which media outlet the product is being advertised on. No matter what advertisements surround ,us and we encounter them on a daily basis. I was really surprised at how much more you notice the amount of ads when you are actually keeping track rather than just seeing them.

Danielle -- more than once I have asked you to break your posts into paragraphs. This post needs some structure. Stop using the lower case "i" in your academic writing. Check your spelling. "A lot" is two words. Know where to capitalize and where not to.
ReplyDeleteNow that you've kept such careful track of the ads you've seen -- what do you think? How does it affect you to be surrounded by ads all day every day? How might it affect society? What is the impact on the way we think about life to be so surrounded?
